In 2006-2007 the Canadian Foodgrains Bank hosted Nestar Lakot Okella, a 23 year old graduate in Development Studies from Makerere University- Kampala, in Uganda.

Nestar hails from the Kitgum District in the northern part of Uganda, where about 95 per cent of the population is displaced in the Internally Displaced Person’s (IDPs) Camp due to the grip of civil war that has been raging in the region for more than 20 years.

Nestar was placed with the Foodgrains Bank as part of Mennonite Central Committee’s , International Visitors Exchange Progamme. Her work focused on educating Canadian public about the hunger situation in other parts of the world basing on my experience in the war torn area of Northern Uganda.
